Hospitality Series: Making a Guest Toiletry Basket
March 4th, 2008 | By Kendra
Have you ever stayed at someone’s home and you forgot something….maybe your toothbrush…maybe your hairspray…and your host didn’t have a supply that you could use? I’m sure many of you have stories about how you’ve been in a bind in situations like this (I remember times where I had to "brush" (actually rub ) my teeth with toothpaste because I forgot my toothbrush).
As Christians we are admonished to "practice hospitality" – to be "given over" to it (Romans 12:13; I Timothy 5:10). Our homes should be filled with warmth, generosity and hospitality toward others. It should be an inviting haven where people see the Gospel played out in our daily lives. The phrase, "make them feel at home", means just that: make them feel just like they would if they were at their own home!
Over the next few days, I’m going to give a few ideas on how to make your home "guest-friendly".
Today, we’ll look at how to put together a toiletry basket to place in your bathroom, just in case they forgot something!

I like to put a little snack in as well in case they don’t feel comfortable raiding my kitchen, although they are more than welcome to. Fresh fruit, crackers, nuts, juice, etc. are all easy to have on hand in the guest room.
Thanks for your blog!

We rarely have guests (no room and too much of a trip for our family to come visit us), but I use freebies to donate in our annual food/Christmas baskets at school, or at donation drives at our local shelters.

If you have a lot of freebies you don’t use, women’s shelters and organizations that help children (like CASA centers) could use the trial sizes. We use full-size or nearly full-size when we travel, so I keep a bag of all the little shampoos from hotels to donate to CASA a couple of times a year.

What an excellent post! I have guests over as we speak (they’re catching up on sleep, since they drove through the night).
I’ll be sure to keep your ideas in mind.
Also, thanks for taking the time to link to all those freebies!

By shopping the specials, using coupons and ECBs at CVS or refunds at Walgreens, I am able to keep a stock of free, full size products of most of the items on your list. Great for stocking up, keeping a guest basket, or donating.
