Have you ever gone couponing, and upon returning home realized that one or more of your coupons were not counted off your total?
This has happened to me so many times, you’d think by now I would have learned to check my receipt before I left the parking lot. Well, I guess I haven’t learned yet. I went to Walmart yesterday to get a few good deals. When the cashier rung me up, I gave her all of my coupons, and thought that they went through fine. The total sounded high to me, but I was in a hurry to get out of there, so I just threw the receipt in the bag and went on my way. As I was driving home I started thinking about my total, and as I calculated in my head what my cost should have been I became concerned that my coupons weren’t counted. As soon as I got home I pulled out my receipt and looked at it. Sure enough, 2 of my coupons were not on there. I was so upset! My savings lost came up to over $4! Now, I don’t know about you but that’s a lot to me!
I decided to call the store and speak with a manager. I explained to him that I had given the cashier my coupons, but the discount did not show up on the receipt. I told him the register number, and info off of the receipt. I asked him what he could do about it. I was surprised at his helpfulness! He told me that he would go to the register, find the coupons, and take the cash value of them out of the drawer to keep for me. All I had to do was go back to the customer service counter where they had an envelope with my money in it waiting for me. He told me to just come back whenever I got a chance. I went today since I was going out that way anyway, and with no problems I got my money back.
There are two morals to this story:
1. ALWAYS check your receipt before you leave the parking lot!
2. IF you notice a mistake after you’ve already left the store, don’t just let it go. Call them, and see what they can do to help you. Sure glad I did!

Oh YES!!!
The other day my sisnlaw did our weekly trip to cvs and she had forgotton to use SEVERAL of her coupons becuase she didnt feel to well… I had done that once before and I had gone right back in and the manager was SO nice and he gave me cash for my coupons. So I told her.. you might want to see if she cna fix it now. So she went back up and of course the lady was very nice and she got back her money for the few coupons which totaled a nice sum. ALWAYS make sure you use your coupons!
Great post!

I always try and count my coupons before using them. This way I do a quick check at the bottom to make sure they all went through.
And yes, that’s happened to me too.

I am glad to hear that someone else does things like this. The other day I was overcharged for a bag of oranges. I knew it rang up wrong but the cashier insisted she was right and I was wrong. (she was polite, but of course the computer never makes mistakes :). There was a big line behind me so I just paid for the groceries and then walked to customer service and explained it to that lady. She told me I was wrong until I took her to the display and pointed out the giant sign with a sale price on it. She took the sale price down and then gave me my refund! It wasn’t much, but if they overcharge everyone all day, that add’s up!

I am just starting to follow the deals and use coupons. This week alone I have had 2 problems like what you describe above. First, I went to Walgreens and used several of their B1G1 deals except that the cashier forgot to ring one up and I paid for both items. I didn’t catch it until I was home so later in the week when I needed to print some pictures I sent them to that Walgreens and when I picked up the pics I got my money back. It was only $2.00 but still! The manager was nice but seemed a bit distrustful of what I said. He did refund my money, with tax.
Later in the week I went to Super Target and it was such a PAIN to use coupons there. They only had 3 registers open and all had long lines. I organized my items with coupons (I even let one girl go ahead of me since I knew I was going to take some time with all the coupons). The cashier was not happy with my coupons and refused several of them. With the long line behind me I just checked out without those items and then talked to her manager. Fortunately, the conversation with the manager took place right next to the register where I checked out and the manager took all of the coupons that the original cashier refused.
Then as I was leaving I realized that the original cashier had not given me credit for another coupon so I stopped at Customer Service and they gave me the cash. With the original transaction another item ended up being priced much higher than I anticipated so I returned that. All that work and I spent about $3 for $20 worth of stuff but it was VERY time consuming.

OHHH this happens to me all the time! I know know to keep a careful eye on everything and of course yesterday I was going quickly at Walgreens and they missed a $1/1. It always makes me feel like someone stole from me! I feel silly making a scene about $1 but you can bet that is the last time I don’t watch carefully. Target printables are the worst since they can stick together. I actually hand them to the cashier 1 at a time now to avoid the hassle.

Several years ago my mom and I were shopping at K Mart and bought a potty chair for my first child. We bought lots of other stuff at the same time and, like you, thought that the total was just too high. Thankfully we found the mistake in the parking lot. They had charged us over $50.00 for the potty!!!
Like you said, it really pays to check those receipts!

This happens down my way all the time. So, I have learned to hand the cashiers one coupon at a time, with 3 kids it is time consuming, but so is the time I take to prepare my shopping trips every week. I have a few cashiers @ the stores I shop at , that do a great job. The rest feel like they are getting one over on me. I even give these wonderful cashiers qpons with deals printed out.
