Journey To Less

July 4, 2008

I thought I’d just let you all know that me and my sister have decided to start a carnival about how we are minimizing the things in our lives, and what exactly we are doing. From the sound of it many of you too are beginning to reevaluate what is truly necessary in your own lives, and beginning this purging process. We thought it would be fun to host a carnival once a week to see what you have been doing in your homes to minimize things. We can’t wait to share our journey with you! Hope to see ya there!

Not that you need the encouragement to be a minimalist but I thought you might still find this interesting:

I really want to simplify our lives and teach our children that the excess is not something that they truely need. I don’t want them to be materialistic as I was growing up. They already understand the concept of money at a young age, I did not learn this until LATE in my teens!

Excellent idea! Too many people in this country are all about how many “things” they have compared to their friends and neighbors. As a long time minimalist, I can tell you that living with less is a freeing experience. Much less stress, more $$ for more important things, and even less to clean! I am cheering you all on. When you get right down to it, there is very little that you actually need in this life. A few simple pieces of clothing, a roof over your head that is all yours, if possible; a couple of pots and pans, some tableware and maybe something to listen to music with. What would I not want to live without? My cast iron cookware and my books. My favorite clothing? Caftans and Saris or Sarongs and then my collection of nature CD’s. I thought ahead in my youth so my homestead is paid for, my older model vehicle is paid for and I have no wants..This is peace and calm and peace and calm make happiness for me.

I’m so excited! Please ready my repurposing series over at the Frugal Bookworm…it’s one way we’re cutting down by reusing a lot of items! I’m also going to be making a lot of the gifts I give this year!
